A Not So Ordinary Day

I was going home from a Christmas party. My head was still ringing with my friends singing and laughing. I hummed cheerfully as I walked back home.

Suddenly, the sky turned dark and the light drizzle transformed into a ponderous downpour, crashing deafeningly on the roofs of the nearby shops. The icy rainwater drenched my jumper and my socks were soggy and wet. But I didn’t have a phone to call mum. My brain was blank like it was frozen by the frosty rain. I was shivering from the head to toe.

I glanced at the row of shops on the street. They were all closed. Fortunately, I noticed a bakery and inside was a young lady. I gazed at the shop again. The young lady inside

was beckoning me over to the shop with a gentle smile on her face. I didn’t stop to think. Oh man! I was cold! I sprinted towards the bakery, swung the door open and BANG! I jumped

up, scared out my wits. I took a moment to realize that it was the wind that slammed the door!

“Honey, you’re shivering! I’ll make a mug of hot chocolate for you and get you a towel!” a melodic voice said behind me. I turned around and saw the shop lady.

“Th-thanks!” I muttered, my teeth chattering.

After the hot chocolate, I felt a great deal warmer. “Can I borrow your phone to call my mum? I left my phone at home.” I asked.

“Of course!” she replied light-heartedly. She handed her phone to me and I called mum immediately.

Mum finally came and I got into our car. Phew! “Thanks for letting him stay at your bakery!” my mum said.

“My pleasure! Nice car you got there. Well, cheerio! Remember to visit me and my bakery next time you pass by!” she said. I waved her a goodbye and we headed back home.

Once I entered the house, I slumped into my favourite armchair and went out like a light.
