Three, Two, One, Snap! A Selfie with the Queen

I happily set off to Northern Castle to meet an old friend of mine, who happened to be one of the Queen’s guards. I grabbed a hot cross bun and a newspaper then walked to the train station. The train station was very busy like a pile of ants being cooked on a hot pan, scuttling around trying to hang on for dear life. I boarded the train, and got squashed against the window.

Half an hour later, the train stopped and I got off the train. Standing before me was the Imperial Northern Castle! There were massive circular towers with little semi-ovals for windows, it looked like it had a million acres of ground! The castle buildings formed a sort of circle, surrounding a green patch of grass. In front was a big wooden arched-door that had a few steps. On the steps were a few pots of flowers. It looked just like the place where royals would like to live! I was very impressed as I knew that this magnificent castle has a very rich history. I even wondered how long it took the architects to build it!

I quickly walked towards the Northern Castle. As I came nearer, I saw a silhouette of an old man. Ah, old Ben of course! I thought. I waved at him and then hurried to talk to him. “Hey, Ben buddy, what are you up to? I haven’t seen you for a while.” I said, as I hugged him. “Not much, just been a little busy. Nice to see you again, my old friend. You know what? I’m not supposed to tell you this but the Queen has been going a little funny, I guess, recently. I really dunno why but she usually eats her Afternoon Tea, served by our private chef, Anna, at about three to four, but now she just sometimes eats her tea ’alf an hour after lunch.”

“So work’s ‘arder for you now, innit? I mean, well if the Queen has been acting a little unusual, then of course you’d need to guard the palace more strictly, right?”

“Well, technically, it’s true, I sometimes even need to work 24 7. At times, I do get a little exhausted, but you ain’t need to worry at the moment.”

“All right, I think I’ve got to go,” I said, after talking nineteen to the dozen with him for about half an hour. “Want a selfie before I leave?”

“O’course!” He replied, grinning from ear to ear. “Just to remember my old self and your teenage look. Ha!”

I took out my phone. “Three, two, one, snap!” I looked at the screen of the mobile phone and saw a spot of an old lady running around the courtyard, holding a butterfly net. I zoomed in and realised that it was the Queen! I looked up at the Palace, and sure there was Her Majesty the Queen running around chasing a butterfly! I laughed out loud.

Ben was bewildered and asked, “What’s the ’atter with ya, have you gone nuts?”

“Course I haven’t!” I replied reproachfully. “Look! There is the Queen chasing after butterflies!” I showed him the picture and told him to look at the courtyard.

“I know, right? But it's just the normal f’me. It actually has become her daily routine now.”

“Great, a picture of my younger self, ya old self and Her Majesty the Queen!” I laughed triumphantly. I gave Ben a big hug and departed from the Northern Castle.
