Underwater Adventure

One sunny day, when Connor and Tristan were having recess at school, they heard a group of friends chatting, and Tristan heard them mentioning the words ‘sunken shipwreck’.

“Did you hear that, Connor?” Tristan asked.

"Hear what?”

“I heard someone mentioning a shipwreck, and it reminds me of the day we went diving in the reefs. You reckon we should go again and find a shipwreck? Maybe there will be some treasure or something. It’s gonna be so fun!” Tristan exclaimed.

“You bet! Can we go this Saturday?”

“’Course.”

So they met up by the seaside and got ready in their diving suits, goggles, etc… and -- whoosh! They were once again back in the blue depths. Connor saw the big groupers and tried to touch them, but they swam away in a splash of their tail. There were different kinds of fish, swimming around together. A school of fish swam by, with the flashing colours of the rainbow. They both marvelled at the wonders of the underwater world: the vibrant corals, the sea anemones, turtles, and even the stingrays! They swam and swam as the sea grew darker and darker until little sunshine could be seen in the deep, dark trenches.

Suddenly, Connor gestured to Tristan and pointed in a direction, as if saying A shipwreck!

Tristan swam closer towards the direction, and sure there was, a massive ship tucked up on the sea bed. It was massive, as massive as an air carrier. Tristan even wondered if it was one!

The shipwreck was shrouded in coral. The mast was torn and the ship hull was full of scratches. It looked like a grim, pitiless grave for the crew that were once aboard the ship, who were now long lost to time. It was covered with slimy seaweed. Parts of the wooden bottom were ripped off the ship, making it look eerie.

Connor and Tristan swam closer to the shipwreck and saw a light ahead through the petite windows of the ship’s. Was someone spying on them?

Oh Tristan, what have you done? We’re prisoners down here now! Connor thought.

Connor could now see eyeballs the size of the moon. He closed his eyes, waiting for his terrible fate to come.

Tristan gathered all his strength and bravery as he swam closer to the ship and looked inside the windows.

Phew, it is just a gigantic octopus! Tristan thought, relieved.

Tristan swam to Connor and tapped him on the shoulder to signal that everything was fine.

They swam inside and found a ripped book which looked like a diary, an ancient one that recorded one’s adventures. If Tristan hadn’t lifted the diary, the book would be dancing to the rhythm of the waves non-stop. Connor swam closer to see what Tristan was doing. Tristan was opening the book, Connor didn’t know if it was safe to do so. But since it was too dark, they could barely see anything.

Connor could only figure out one word, “it”, which meant nothing to both of them. So Tristan held it and wanted to swim back out of the ship when --

“Ouch!!!” Tristan turned around and found a box jellyfish that looked as venomous as a king cobra, and it had stung his forearm.

He couldn’t believe his eyes. He just couldn’t. His heart was beating so fast that he even wondered if his heart rate would ever return to normal again. The pain permeated through every single cell in his body, just like one continuous electric shock. His muscles went all rigid like a stone. He slowly began to drift into unconsciousness.

As Connor watched the scene advance, he was panicking, Tristan, no, please don’t die!

Thankfully, at this moment, the box jellyfish had swam away. Connor quickly swam towards Tristan as he caught him and carried him with not much difficulty. “I guess this is the end of the adventure,” sighed Connor. He swam towards the bright patch of sunshine carrying Tristan. Out of the blue, Tristan gave a shake and woke up. “What happened?” he asked.
